Journalism & Publications Skills: Students will learn basic principles of journalism while doing hands-on work on the school publications (newspaper and yearbook).  Students may also learn basics of photography, interviewing, layout and design, typography, sales and fundraising methods, and computer applications used to publish student publications.

Fundraising Requirement: This course requires students to participate in raising funds through events that may take place at school or off campus.  Students are expected to raise $100 per marking period for the publications account and are graded on meeting this requirement.  The sales quota may be met by a combination of selling yearbook and/or newspaper ads (after school hours) and/or by participating in fundraising activities at school or off campus.

Deadlines: Because deadlines are an integral part of a quality publication, students will be expected to complete quality work within a given time, meeting all deadlines.  Failing to meet deadlines will be reflected in grades.

Year-long or Semester Course Options: This course is currently offered as a year-long course or as a semester course that may be taken either in the fall or spring semester.  It is not recommended that students take both the year-long and a semester course concurrently as the material is the same in each.
